It is also called radiation surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Radiosurgery is the application of a high dose of radiation to a specific part of the body, it is a non-invasive treatment, that is, no incisions (cuts) are made. "Stereotactic" radiosurgery is the use of a three-dimensional map (a coordinate system) to deliver a predetermined amount of radiation to an exact area of the brain. Normally, radiation is delivered in single-dose sessions, without requiring the patient to be hospitalized.
