The lingual frenum is the ligament that connects the ventral part of the tongue with the floor of the mouth. Ankylosing is an anomaly of the lingual development that results in an abnormally short or thick frenum. The length of the frenulum, the elasticity and the point of insertion in the tongue will influence the degree of restriction of the lingual movements.
