The thyroglossal duct is a tube that forms during the development of the thyroid gland, in the first weeks of pregnancy. This gland originates at the base of the tongue and travels to the lower part of the neck, leaving a tube that closes a few weeks later, transforming into a cord. In some children, this tube does not close completely, leaving a space that can fill with fluid or mucus, forming a cyst. This procedure allows the eradication of the cyst to restore the health of the thyroid gland.
