Heart rhythm problems (cardiac arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate the heartbeat do not work properly, which causes the heart to beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia) or irregularly. Cardiac arrhythmias can cause you to have a fluttering sensation in the chest or an accelerated heart and may be harmless. However, some cardiac arrhythmias can cause annoying signs and symptoms (other heart problems) and, sometimes, mortals.
