Patients with de Quervain syndrome have sore tendons on the wrist, on the side of the thumb (the tendons are the cords that the muscle uses to pull the bone), they can be seen on the back of the hand when the fingers are stretched. In cases of de Quervain syndrome, the tunnel through which the tendons run narrows due to the thickening of the soft tissues that make up the tunnel. The movement of the hand and thumb causes pain, especially when trying to grasp or twist strongly.
