It consists of resection and suturing of the redundant vaginal mucosa in the anterior or posterior wall of the vagina. It is indicated mainly as treatment in descents or prolapses of the anterior or posterior wall of the vagina (colpocele), urethra (urethrocele), bladder (cystocele), and rectum (rectocele), also, in cases of perineal tears (pelvic floor ) and in some cases of urinary incontinence or as a complement to vaginal hysterectomy. Its main objective is to combat the prolapse of the genital organs in young women.
