It is a therapeutic endoscopic procedure that is mainly used to control the bleeding of certain lesions in the gastrointestinal tract especially vascular lesions. It includes the application of a stream of ionized argon gas (plasma) that is directed through a probe introduced through the working channel of the endoscope, since physical contact with the lesion is minimal, the procedure is safe, and can be used to treat bleeding in the parts of the gastrointestinal tract with thin walls, such as the caecum (right colon). The depth of the coagulation is usually a few millimeters.
