Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus, they can be found inside (internal hemorrhoids) or outside it (external hemorrhoids). Often hemorrhoids do not cause problems, but if they bleed a lot, cause pain or become swollen, hard and painful, it can be removed with surgery called hemorrhoidectomy.
