Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a medical test that is used to visualize, diagnose and treat diseases of the digestive system, through a thin and flexible tube (endoscope) that carries at its end a video camera whose image is transmitted to a monitor. There are two digestive endoscopy techniques: high endoscopy and colonoscopy. Upper digestive endoscopy, also called panendoscopy or gastroscopy, allows you to explore the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (initial portion of the small intestine); while colonoscopy allows direct visualization inside the colon (large intestine) and the final part of the small intestine (ileum).
Usually they are performed under sedation which allows to reduce discomfort and that the study is well tolerated.
