The extraction of the strings is perhaps the most frequent surgical procedure performed in dentistry, as they are the last pieces to erupt, they often do not have room to accommodate, leaving them in a retention position, bad position or even semi-ruptured and causing pain, infection or other dental problems. To prevent future problems, some dentists and oral surgeons recommend removing the cords even when they still do not cause any problems.
The strings are known as "third molars" or popularly as "wisdom teeth."
