Volumetric radiotherapy (VMAT)

Modulated volumetric arcotherapy (VMAT) is an advanced form of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) that delivers a given three-dimensional dose of radiation to a tumor but causes the least damage to healthy surrounding tissue. In the VMAT, the latest generation linear accelerators rotate continuously 360º around the patient. During these rotational movements, three parameters can be varied simultaneously: the speed of rotation, the rate of the dose and the beam opening.
