Vascular ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate the body's circulatory system and help identify blockages in arteries and veins, and to detect blood clots. This test usually includes a Doppler ultrasound (a technique that evaluates the flow of blood through a blood vessel). Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, has no known harmful effects, and provides an image of the soft tissues that do not appear on X-ray images.
