It is a procedure to remove the entire thyroid gland, thyroidectomy is used to treat thyroid disorders such as cancer, non-cancerous enlargement of the thyroid (goiter) and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). After surgery you can eat and drink as usual.
The thyroid gland is shaped like a butterfly, is located in the front of the lower part of the neck and is responsible for secreting hormones that regulate metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and calcium level in the blood.
