The cervarix vaccine is a vaccine against HPV, which protects against infection by types 16 and 18 of the human papillomavirus (HPV). These types of infection cause 70% of all cases of cervical cancer. The efficacy in the prevention of precancerous lesions in this vaccine is greater than 92% in women who were not previously infected; that is, the vaccine is very effective.
