It is surgery to rebuild the ligament in the center of the knee. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) holds the shin bone (tibia) in place, a rupture of this ligament can cause the knee to loosen during physical activity.
In the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the torn ligament is removed and replaced with part of a tendon from another area of the knee or from a donor. This surgery is an outpatient procedure that is done through small cuts around the knee joint.
