Total thyroidectomy with lymphadenectomy is a radical surgery that seeks to restore the health and quality of life to the patient, consists in removing the thyroid gland and lymph nodes.
The thyroid gland secretes the hormones that regulate metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and the level of calcium in the blood, the thyroid gland is butterfly-shaped and is located in the front of the lower neck.
Lymphadenectomy is a surgical procedure in which lymph nodes are removed and a tissue sample is examined under a microscope to determine if there are signs of cancer; in addition to thyroid extraction, some of the cervical ganglionic chains are emptied in the same operation.
